Loving You
, 1985. Roger plays drums, synths and produced the track.
Released as a single, which reached no 26. 1. Single Version (4:08) (available on the 7" single, and presumably also on the 12")
2. Extended Version (5:52) (available on the 12" single only, presumably; this adds a few extra vocals and a longer synth/drum section) Touching you, it's a precious thing
Breathing close, I'm so unsure
Embracing her, oh, soft sweet skin
Feeling our, our arms entwined
Touching you
All this time, loving you
All this time, loving you
Close your eyes, touch again
Share a kiss, passions rise
Whispering "I love you"
Racing hearts, our bodies warm
Close your eyes
All this time, loving you
All this time, loving you (Touching you, touching you) Touching you, loving (touching you, touching you) All this time, loving you All this time, loving you
Loving you
Bulletproof Heart
, 1985. Roger produced the track. Length 3:48.
Recorded for the band's debut album, but the project was abandoned and remains unreleased. However, the track appears on two various artists compilation albums released by Virgin records, namely 'Samurai (Summer Hits 85)' (in Greece) and 'Rock '85 - English Style' (in Europe), although they could be alternative names for the same album. Some say this is a dangerous place
Dangerous woman, lipstick face
Men disappear without a trace
Stay among us, I like your face
In this town you need a bulletproof heart
In this town you need a bulletproof
A shatterproof heart
When I came here I was innocent
Soon found out what trouble meant
Now I regret the times I spent
In your tower blocks, your tenements
In this town you need a bulletproof heart
In this town you need a bulletproof
A shatterproof heart
Watch your step don't open the door
Watch your step they wanna settle the score
Watch your step don't open the door
Don't open the door, don't open the door
Some say this is a dangerous place
Searchlight circles, they watch this place
Men disappear without a trace
Another must face it caught in the face
In this town you need a bulletproof heart
In this town you need a bulletproof
A shatterproof heart
In this town you need a bulletproof heart
In this town you need a bulletproof
A shatterproof
A shatterproof
A shatterproof heart
Walking
, 1985. Roger produced the track. Length 3:30.
Recorded for the band's debut album, but the project was abandoned and remains unreleased. I've been walking
I've been walking on my own
I've been walking
Been talking alone
Lines on my face
Lead you to way back then
I follow the memories
You follow dreams
Oh, I've been walking
Same as the next day
Same as the other day
I live with memories
You live with dreams
You're living with dreams
So I've been walking
Oh, I've been walking on my own
Oh, I've been walking
I've been walking and talking all alone
Well join me at last
All the fighting we gave
And the light of the tunnel
We dance in the rain
My spirit is lost
For the price of a dream
So I've been walking
Bursting At The Seams
, 1985. Roger plays drums and synths, and produced the track.
Released as a single, with the instrumental version as the B-side, but it did not chart.
These lyrics are my interpretation, and as such are probably inaccurate (as they don't make much sense in places). 1. Single Version (3:43) (on the 7" single only)
2. Instrumental Version (3:58) (on both the 7" and 12" singles; instrumental, but retains some lyrics)
3. Backroom Mix (4:00) (on the 12" single, this is identical to the single version but has two alternate verses) In the midnight heat
I thought I heard you call my name
Or was it just the hustling in the street
The rustling of my feet
Have I been alone too long
They've always been in my subway dreams
You left my heart just bursting at the seams
I heard a whisper
Was there someone right behind of me
Or was it just a ghost
Long in the street
The leaves on the trees
I'm out in so called Freedom Park
All of them showed that, all I could see
Were all the shameless people trying to hide in the backstreet Like an everlasting dream
I need you, why'd you not come back?
We swear we'd be lovers but I never knew what that would mean
I found it harder to admit defeat, um You hurt me
I need you now
Now
Stumbling round in empty bars
Wishing I could have made a start
I wanna be with you when they bring me down
I'm a prisoner of the dawn
Highways and byeways pass me but I don't know what they mean
I was just wishing I was some place else Like an everlasting dream
I need you, why'd you drop by me?
We swear we'd be lovers but I never knew what that would mean
I found it harder to admit defeat
Oh, my heart just bursting at the seams
You left my heart bursting at the seams
You left my heart bursting, oooh, oh, oh
Why did you break me baby?
Oh baby, I need you back
You left my heart bursting at the seams
You left my heart bursting at the seams
You left my heart bursting, bursting, bursting
You left my heart bursting at the seams
You left my heart bursting at the seams
You left me bursting, bursting, bursting
You left my heart In the midnight heat
I thought I heard you call my name
Or was it just the hustling in the street
The rustling of my feet
Have I been alone too long
They've always been in my subway dreams
You left my heart just bursting at the seams
I heard a whisper
Was there someone right behind of me
Or was it just a ghost
Long in the street
The leaves on the trees
I'm out in so called Freedom Park
All of them showed that, all I could see
Were all the shameless people trying to hide in the backstreet
When you get stuck in the crowded streets
The hookers smile from limousines
The crowds look on, this mother yawns
At the mugging on the street
Check out empty bars full
Ignore the drugs and lie on the floor
I'm wishing I was some place else
Like an everlasting dream
I need you, why'd you not come back?
We swear we'd be lovers but I never knew what that would mean
I found it harder to admit defeat, um
You hurt me
I need you now
Now
Stumbling round in empty bars
Wishing I could have made a start
I wanna be with you when they bring me down
I'm a prisoner of the dawn
Highways and byeways pass me but I don't know what they mean
I was just wishing I was some place else
Like an everlasting dream
I need you, why'd you drop by me?
We swear we'd be lovers but I never knew what that would mean
I found it harder to admit defeat
Oh, my heart just bursting at the seams
You left my heart bursting at the seams
You left my heart bursting, oooh, oh, oh
Why did you break me baby?
Oh baby, I need you back
You left my heart bursting at the seams
You left my heart bursting at the seams
You left my heart bursting, bursting, bursting
You left my heart bursting at the seams
You left my heart bursting at the seams
You left me bursting, bursting, bursting
You left my heart bursting at the seams

1. Extended Remix (5:07) (on the 12" singles) Oh
I'm looking for someone
In this old crazy world tonight
I can't take this heartbreak
In this old crazy world tonight
I'm feeling so empty
In this old lonely world tonight
I'm restless, defenceless
In this unholy world tonight
Oh, I never learn
Oh, lonely night
Disappear
Oh, lonely night
Don't you come round here
Oh, lonely night
Lonely, lonely night
I'm waiting for something
To put these foolish things to right
Protected, accepted
I need it now, I need it right
I'm feeling so empty
In this old lonely world tonight
I'm restless, defenceless
In this unholy world tonight
For love we burn
But we never learn
We never learn
Oh, lonely night
Disappear
Oh, lonely night
Don't you come round here
Oh, lonely night, night
It's creeping up on me
Oh, lonely night
Disappear
Oh, lonely night
Don't you come round here
Oh, lonely night
Ah, one more
Oh, lonely night
Ooh disappear from my door
Oh, lonely night
Oh, don't you come round here no more
Oh, lonely night
Disappear from my door
Oh, lonely night
Said, don't you come round here no more
Need A Lot Of Love
, 1986. Roger produced the track. Length 4:48.
Available as track 2 on the album '
Vigilante'.
This track segues into 'Sometime Love'.
1. Single Version (4:00) (on a French and German single only; this is remixed, loses some lyrics from the first two verses, and repeats the chorus at the end rather than having an instrumental outro and segue to the next track)
2. Extended Version (5:23) (on the German 12" single only) Soldier cut loose in Saigon
Used to be a farmer just like anyone Soldier cut loose in Saigon
Even to his father he's a violent son Mmmm
Mmmm Someone built a wall in Berlin
Not to keep them out but to keep them in Someone built a wall in Berlin
A permanent reminder of what's happening Oh, we need a lot of love
Gotta take a lot of pain
You can watch the river flood
But get washed away the same
Oh, we know that things don't last
So we use the guiding tracks
Through the deadly ring of flame
Mmmm
Mmmm
Smoking in a room in Lebanon
Hotel's serving but the hospital's gone, ah
Choking in a room in Lebanon
Many people hurt but still the telephone's off, off
Mmmm
Mmmm
Standing on a street in Belfast
City in division, widow in black
Standing on a street in Belfast
Crunching up my feet on the broken glass
We need a lot of love
Gotta take a lot of pain
You can watch the river flood
But get washed away the same
Oh, we know that things don't last
So we use the guiding tracks
Through the deadly ring of flame
Ah, oh, we need a lot of love (can you feel the love)
Gotta take a lot of pain (oh, a lot of pain)
You can watch the river flood (sitting by the river)
But get washed away the same (wash it over me)
Oh, we know that things don't last
So we use the guiding tracks
Through the deadly ring of flame Oh, we need a lot of love (can you feel the love)
Gotta take a lot of pain (oh, a lot of pain)
You can watch the river flood (sitting by the river)
Sometime Love
, 1986. Roger produced the track and sings backing vocals. Length 4:20.
Available as track 3 on the album '
Vigilante'.
This track segues from 'Need A Lot Of Love' and into 'Midnight (You Won't Be Sleeping)'.
Yeah
Oh
I'm looking round at the posters on the damp wall
Hear static on the radio
There's no sound from the mission or the dance hall
No place that I wanna go
Broke up am I dreaming it's a sad day
Too much to be sitting here alone
Bad luck and it's gonna be a long day
There's no number I can telephone, telephone
When you fall
It's no game
'Cos you can do it
Over again and again and again
(Sometime love) will break your heart
(Sometime love) in fair exchange
(Sometime love) takes you apart at every stage
(Sometime love) will break your heart
(Break your heart) or what remains
(Sometime love) takes you apart, drives you insane
Day breaks and starts another heartache
Hurts bad reaching out for someone
The games up, oh, here comes another heartbreak
All this and it's only just begun
When you fall
It's no game
'Cos they can do it
Over again and again and again and again
(And again and again)
(Sometime love) is very strange
(Sometime love) takes you apart at every stage, oooh
(Sometime love) will break your heart
(Break your heart) or what remains
(Sometime love) takes you apart, drives you insane
Sometime love, oh
(Sometime love) is very strange
(Sometime love) takes you apart, driving me insane
Good
Come on, driving me insane, yeah
Oh, oh, insane, yeah
Insane, yeah
Driving me insane, yeah
Ooh, ahh
Insane, yeah
Driving me insane, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah
Insane, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Driving me insane
Midnight
(You Won't Be Sleeping)
, 1986. Roger produced the track. Length 4:01.
Available as track 4 on the album '
Vigilante'.
This track segues from 'Sometime Love' and into 'Red On The Highway'.
1. Extended Remix (6:17) (on the 12" single, and the 'Chapter & Verse' and 'The Storyteller's Collection' albums; this features a lengthy instrumental intro, repeated vocals, and some instrumental sections) I know how it feels to cry
But it's only lovers know the reason why
They stay together
And when your time has come
You soon discover
Look at what you've done
Could be forever
Your open arms say everything
You're always there
It seems I might be here all night I light a candle bright
To show your way tonight I light a candle bright
To show your way tonight
Midnight, you won't be sleeping
I won't be leaving
Off with my foolish pride
Too much in trouble
Never could decide
Always a struggle
Now I know how it feels to cry
It's only lovers know the reason why
They stay together
Your open arms say everything
You're always there
It seems I might be here all night It seems I might be here all night I light a candle bright
To show your way tonight
Midnight, you won't be sleeping
I won't be leaving, leaving, leaving
I light a candle bright
To show your way tonight
Midnight, you won't be sleeping
I won't be leaving
It seems I might be here all night
I light a candle bright
To show your way tonight
I light a candle bright
To show your way tonight I light a candle bright
To show your way tonight
I light a candle bright
To show your way tonight
Midnight, you won't be sleeping
I won't be
Red On The Highway
, 1986. Roger produced the track. Length 4:13.
Available as track 5 on the album '
Vigilante'.
This track segues from 'Midnight (You Won't Be Sleeping)'.
It's red on the highway, diamonds in the sky
A million stilettos cutting tears from your eye
It's peppered with starshell, it's pouring silver rain
Falling like lumber, but you're feeling no pain
You can't run
Can't run
Can't run away
Can't run, na, na, na, na, na, na
Can't run
Can't run away
There's blood in the river, terror spikes your soul
It's louder than thunder way down deep in this hole
There's a light in the mountain, a fireball in the town
Tornado in the making and a shaking in the ground
You can't run
Can't run
Can't run away
Can't run, na, na, na, na, na, na
Can't run
Can't run away
Late on
Oh no
Trapped in the shadows feeling ragged and torn
Radio message bringing no help at all
There's a light in the mountain, fireball in the town
Tornado in the making and a shaking in the ground
You can't run
Can't run
Can't run away
Can't run, na, na, na, na, na, na
Can't run
Said we can't run away
No, no
Oh
Oh
Oh, you can't run
Can't run
Can't run away
Can't run, can't run, can't run
Can't run
We can't run away
Holy Rider
, 1986. Roger produced the track. Length 5:17.
Available as track 6 on the album '
Vigilante'.
Holy rider, take to the air
Holy rider, please beware
Carry the news with care
Promise we'll all be there
Oh, holy rider, it's time to start
Holy rider, brave in the dark
Though we are just a spark
Made up of many parts
Down from the hills
Everyone race
Witness the time
Heaven will weigh the heart of stone
Heart of stone
Watch it break
Break the heart of stone
Oh, oh, oh
Holy rider, take to the air
Holy rider, please beware
Carry the news with care
Promise we'll all be there
Different in shape
Colour of face
Equally bought
But heaven will weigh the heart of stone
Heart of stone
Watch it break
Break the heart of stone
Heart of stone
(Hearts of)
Stone, stone
Heart of stone
Stone, stone
Stone, stone
(Hearts) heart of stone
(Hearts)
Heart
Heart of stone
Stone
Oooh
Stone
Stone
Stone
Down from the hills
Everyone race
Witness the time
Heaven will weigh
Different in shape
Colour of face
Equally bought
But heaven will weigh the heart of stone
Heart of stone
Watch it break
Watch it break the heart of stone, stone, stone
Heart of stone
Watch it break, break, break, break
The heart of stone, stone
Heart of stone
Heart of stone
Break the heart of stone, yeah
Heart of stone
Break the heart of stone
Heart of stone
Break the heart of stone
Heart of stone
Break the heart of stone
Heart of stone
Heart of stone
Heart of stone
Heart of stone
When The World Comes Down
, 1986. Roger produced the track and sings backing vocals. Length 5:20.
Available as track 7 on the album 'Vigilante', and on the 'Chapter & Verse' album. 1. Single Version (unknown length) (on some single releases only, although they may feature the full album version) Hiding somewhere out of sight
Are you all right
Feeling pulled from left to right
Are you all right
You've been alone again tonight
No-one has called
If they had known I think they might
'Cos you've got it all, yeah
There are times it's hard to swallow
When the world comes down on you
May it shine on you tomorrow
And your dreams they all come true
Oh, oh
I hear you crying to yourself
Oh, that's not right
And I know you, oh, you need somebody's help
Oh, for tonight
But you sit alone, turn off your light
Feeling so small
You should have known how well you might
You've got it all
There are times it's hard to swallow
When the world comes down on you
May it shine on you tomorrow
And your dreams they all come true
There are times it's hard to swallow, oh, oh
When the world comes down on you
May it shine on you tomorrow, oh, oh
And your dreams they all come true
Sing it
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh
Oh, oh
Mmm
May all your dreams
Dreams come true for you
I want them to
Vigilante
, 1986. Roger produced the track. Length 6:39.
Available as track 8 on the album '
Vigilante', and on the 'Chapter & Verse' and 'Long Days Black Nights' albums.
1. Single Version (4:15) (available as the B-side to the 'When The World Comes Down' single; this loses a large section in the middle of the track, instrumental sections, and fades in later and out earlier) Racing in the shadows, pounding of the feet
While the old men get to praying
And the children try to sleep
Just another promise, they don't really care
'Cos the movement on the borders
Got the people running scared
Standing on the corner never got things done
Leave your front door open
You'll be the foolish one
No misunderstanding, no honour among thieves
It's a sorry situation
A gun is all you need
I said
Go call the vigilante
He'll turn this place upside down
Go call the vigilante
He don't get kicked around
Hold on, there's a new way a comin'
Looks like it's arriving tonight
There's no more hiding or running
There's no more walking on ice Standing on the corner never got things done
Leave your front door open
You'll be the foolish one
No misunderstanding, no honour among thieves
It's a sorry situation
A gun is all you need
I said
Go call the vigilante
He'll turn this place upside down
Go call the vigilante
He don't get kicked around
Hold on, there's a new way a comin'
Looks like it's arriving tonight
There's no more hiding or running
There's no more walking on ice
Racing in the shadows, the pounding of the feet
While the old men get to praying
And the children try to sleep
Just another promise, they don't really care
'Cos the movement on the borders
Got the people running scared
I said
Go call the vigilante
He'll turn this place upside down
Go call the vigilante
He don't get kicked around, kicked around
Hold on, there's a new way a comin'
Looks like it's arriving tonight
There's no more hiding or running
There's no more walking on ice I said
Hold on, there's a new way a comin'
Looks like it's arriving tonight
There's no more hiding or running
There's no more walking on ice, oh
Hold on, there's a new way a comin'
Looks like it's arriving tonight
There's no more hiding or running
There's no more walking on, walking on ice
Hold on, hold on
Looks like it's arriving tonight
There's no more hiding or running
There's no more walking on ice
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
Vigilante, vigilante man
Vigilante, call the vigilante man
Vigilante, vigilante man
Vigilante, call the vigilante man

Back Street Kid
, 1986. Roger produced the track. Length 5:00.
Available as track 9 on the album '
Vigilante'.
He had eyes of the poor wild and hungry
Stood outside of the store, shy and clumsy
Saw an electric guitar, he got hooked from the start
That's what it did
To the back street kid
It's a dangerous game, might come to nothing
Very hard to explain the pushing and the shoving
Still the sound in his ears and the many lean years
Taught him to live
Back street kid
Everyone was singing
Dream, dream, back street kid
Dream, dream, dream, dream, back street kid
He spends hours on his own, he's still learning
Learns to wait for the phone, ideas burning
And from liberty hall he will rise or he'll fall
That's how he'll live
The back street kid
All the kids are singing
Dream, dream, back street kid
Dream, dream, dream, dream, back street kid
He stepped into the rain, cold and empty
Whispered never again, I'm not contented
Walked off into the night, he walked far out of sight
So much to give
The back street kid
Oh
Dream, dream, back street kid
Dream, dream, dream, dream, back street kid
Hear your mama calling
Dream, dream, back street kid, yeah
Dream, dream, dream, dream, back street kid
Oh
Said, dream, dream, dream, dream, dream on
Dream, dream, dream, dream, dream on
Dream, dream, dream, dream, dream on
Dream, dream, dream, dream, dream on
Dream, dream, dream, dream, dream on
Dream, dream, dream, dream, dream on
Dream, dream, dream, dream, dream on
Dream, dream, dream, dream, dream, dream on
Dream on

1. Acoustic Version (3:22) (only on the first CD single only; this version fades out slightly earlier) Well, I've got a girl who's as cute as can be
But she never pays no attention to me
She lives her life in a world full of steady-oh
'Cos all she ever want to do is listen to the radio
And that's all
Well, I take her to the movies and it's just the same
We're just gettin' cosy and it's on again
Listenin' on her headphones, tuning to her favourite show, woh ooh
'Cos all she ever want to do is listen to the radio
All day long
Come on
Yeah
Uh
I whisper sweet nothings inside her ear
But when I get close all I ever hear
Is some cool DJ tellin' me it's gonna snow, woh ooh
There doesn't seem to be a way of getting inside her head
She talks to me but it's only if the battery's dead
But then she keeps a spare and it's back to rock 'n' roll, yeah
'Cos all she ever want to do is listen to the radio
That's all she ever want to do
I've got a girl who's as cute as can be
But she never pays no attention to me
She lives her life in a world full of steady-oh, woh ooh
It's a hopeless case and I don't know what I can do
I rack my brains while she sings out of tune
Well she's switching me off and one of these days I'm gonna go, yeah
'Cos all she ever want to do is listen to the radio
All she ever want to do is listen to the radio
Yeah, all she ever want to do is listen to the radio
All she ever want to do is listen to the radio
Radio
All she ever want to do is listen to the radio
All she ever want to do is listen to the radio
Radio
All she ever want to do is listen to the radio
Radio
All she ever want to do is listen to the radio
Radio
All she ever want to do is listen to the radio
Baba O'Riley / Summertime Blues
(live)
, 1994. Roger plays drums. Length 6:23 (3:00 and 3:23 respectively).
Recorded live at the Mick Ronson Memorial Concert, at the Hammersmith Odeon, London, on 29 April 1994.
Available on the album of the concert. Both tracks feature Ian Hunter, who sings some lead vocals on 'Summertime Blues'.
Ian Hunter: I love rock and roll, I've been around rock and roll a long time, as some of you who know my age will testify to, I love rock and roll, so I love Roger Daltrey.
Roger Daltrey: Thank you Ian
Ian Hunter: Never had the chance to play on stage with Roger before, here's a couple of songs from The Who Out here in the fields
I farm for my meals
I get my back into my living
I don't need to fight
To prove I'm right
I don't need to be forgiven
No, no, no, no, no, no
Don't cry
Don't raise your eye
It's only teenage wasteland
Sally, take my hand
We'll travel south cross land
Put out the fire
Don't look past my shoulder
The exodus is here
The happy ones are near
Let's get together
Before we get much older
Teenage wasteland, oh yeah
It's only teenage wasteland
Teenage wasteland, oh yeah
It's only teenage wasteland
They're all wasted
Yeah, I'm a gonna raise a fuss, I'm a gonna raise a holler
About a workin' all summer just to try to earn a dollar
When I try to call my baby, gonna go for a date
My boss says, "no dice son, you gotta work late"
Sometimes I wonder what I'm a gonna do
But there ain't no cure for the summertime blues
Well, my mom and poppa told me, "son you gotta earn some money
If you want to use the car to go ridin' next sunday"
Well, I didn't go to work, I told the boss I was sick
He said "you can't use the car 'cos you didn't work late"
Sometimes I wonder what I'm a gonna do
There ain't no cure for the summertime blues
Gonna take two weeks, gonna have a fine vacation
Gonna take my problem to the United Nations
Well, I went to my congressman, he said "boy
I'd like to help you son but you're too old to vote"
Sometimes I wonder what I'm a gonna do
There ain't no cure for the summertime blues Roger Daltrey: Simon Townsend on guitar there. Thank you
Unknown voice: Thank you.

Video Version (5:00) (on the 2001 reissue album only, as a bonus video; this features some additional dialogue at the start and end, an extra chorus and other additional lyrics) Ian Hunter: Well, that's about it, one thing more to do, here we go. One, two, a one, two, three, four Billy rapped all night about his suicide
How he'd kick it in the head when he reached twenty-five
Speed jive, don't want to stay alive
When you're twenty-five
And Wendy's stealing clothes from Marks and Sparks
Freddy's got spots from ripping off the stars from his face
He got a funky little boat race
The television man is crazy says we're juvenile deliquent wrecks
Oh man I need TV when I got T-Rex
Oh, brother you guessed
I'm a dude, yeah
(All the young dudes) hey dudes
(Carry the news) where are ya
(Boogaloo dudes) are you still around?
(Carry the news) let me here you now
(All the young dudes) I wanna here you
(Carry the news) I wanna feel you
(Boogaloo dudes) I wanna like you
(Carry the news) now
Lucy looks sweet 'cos she dresses like a queen
But she can kick like a mule, it's a real mean team
But we can love, you better believe it
And my brother's back at home with his Beatles and his Stones
We never got it off on that revolution stuff
What a drag, too many snags
I've drunk a lot of wine and I'm feeling fine
I've got to race some cat to bed
Is there concrete all around
Or is it in my head?
Brother you guessed
I'm a dude yeah
I'm a dude yeah
I'm a dude yeah
I'm a dude yeah
I'm a dude yeah
I'm a dude yeah
I'm a dude yeah
I'm a dude yeah
I'm a dude yeah
(All the young dudes) hey dudes
(Carry the news)
(Boogaloo dudes) I wanna hear you
(Carry the news)
(All the young dudes) anybody want to come up
(Carry the news) you're welcome
(Boogaloo dudes)
(Carry the news) Ohh, ohhh (All the young dudes)
(Carry the news) yeah (Boogaloo dudes)
(Carry the news)
(All the young dudes) hey you there
(Carry the news) you in the glasses
(Boogaloo dudes) I want you
(Carry the news) you bring him down to me, right after the show (All the young dudes) can't hear
(Carry the news)
(Boogaloo dudes)
(Carry the news) (All the young dudes)
(Carry the news)
(Boogaloo dudes)
(Carry the news) (All the young dudes)
(Carry the news) Alright
Alright, alright, alright, alright, alright Ian Hunter: That's the Ronson band, our old bass player. That was a gas, pleasure doing business with you. Bob Harris: Thank you so much everybody, we hope you've had a really good time, thank you.
Michael Picasso
(live)
, 1994. Roger plays drums. Length 6:44.
Recorded live at the Mick Ronson Memorial Concert, at the Hammersmith Odeon, London, on 29 April 1994.
Available on the album of the concert, with the spoken introduction below. It was also released as a single and appears on the Ian Hunter 'Once Bitten Twice Shy' compilation album, without the intro.
Ian Hunter: Er, this song's especially for Susie Ronson, for Maggie Ronson, and especially, for most of all, for Mrs Minnie Ronson, Mick's mum, who's right down there. She ah, she doesn't like listening to this song, so I always tell her to get out, but she sits there anyway. It's called 'Michael Picasso'. Once upon a time
Not so long ago
People used to stand and stare
At the spider with the platinum hair
They thought you were immortal
We had our ups and downs
Like brothers often do
But he was there for me
I was always there for him
We were there for him
How can I put into words
What my heart feels
It's the deepest thing
When somebody you love dies
I just wanted
To give something back to you
Gift a gift
Michael
Michael Picasso
Goodnight
Alright
You used to laugh a lot
You said it was relaxing
Now I walk in the places you walked
I talk in all the places you talked
I guess it still hasn't sunk in
All the words we used
They come into my head
I'm only one
Do the shadows
Play tricks with my mind
Oh, it feels like nothing has changed
But I know it has
Michael
Michael Picasso
Goodnight
Heal me
Won't you
Heal me
Nothing lasts forever
Let me be
Heal me
Won't you
Heal me
I'm the one who's left here
Heal me
Heal me
Heal me
Heal me
Ooh-oh, ooh-oh, ooh-oh, ooh-oh
You turned into a ghost
So I live by your pain
All the things that I like the least
Were sitting round Hasker Street
Lying about the future
And we all cried
In a room of flowers
On a windy day
And I looked round
But none of these words seem right
I just want to
Give something back to you
Gift a gift
Michael
Michael Picasso
Goodnight
Oh, Michael
Michael Picasso
Goodnight
Hey, Michael
Lay your hair on my pillow, ooh-ooh-ooh
Oh, it feels like
Nothing has changed
But I know it has
Michael
Michael Picasso
To know, know, know him
Was to love, love, love, him
And I do, and I do

'Ello, 'ello, 'ello, 'ello
You know the times gettin' hard for you, little girl
I'm a hummin' and a strummin' all over God's world
You can't remember when you got your last meal
And you don't know just how a woman feels
You didn't know what rock n' roll was
Until you met a drummer on a greyhound bus
I got there in the nick of time
Before he got his hands across your state line
Now it's the middle of the night on the open road
And the heater don't work and it's oh-so cold
You're lookin' tired, you're lookin' kinda beat
The rhythm of the street sure knock you off your feet
You didn't know how rock n' roll looked
Until you caught your sister with a guy from the group
She was half way home in the parking lot
By the look in her eye she was givin' what she got
You know
(Ah, ah, ah)
I'm once bitten twice shy, babe
(Ah, ah, ah)
I'm once bitten twice shy, babe
You know (ah, ah, ah)
I'm once bitten twice shy, babe
Ah, ah, ahh, ahhh
Woman you're a mess gonna die in your sleep
With blood on my hand and my Les Paul heat
I can't leave you home, you're runnin' around
My best friend told me you're the best trick in town
You didn't know that rock n' roll burned
So you bought a candle and you light and you learned
You got the rhythm, you got the speed
Mamma's little baby likes it short and sweet
You know (ah, ah, ah)
I'm once bitten twice shy, babe
You know (ah, ah, ah)
I'm once bitten twice shy, babe
Oh, oh, oh, oh, you know (ah, ah, ah)
I'm once bitten twice shy, babe
I didn't know you had a rock n' roll record
Until a saw your picture on another guy's jacket
You told me I was the only one
Well look at you now, it's done, yes it's done
You know (ah, ah, ah)
I'm once bitten twice shy, babe
You know (ah, ah, ah)
I'm once bitten twice shy, babe
Oh, oh, oh, oh, you know (ah, ah, ah)
I'm once bitten twice shy, babe
You know (ah, ah, ah)
I'm once bitten twice shy-y-y, hit me Roger
Resurrection Mary
(live)
, 1994. Roger plays drums. Length 7:21.
Recorded live at the Mick Ronson Memorial Concert, at the Hammersmith Odeon, London, on 29 April 1994.
Available on the album of the concert.
In 1935, I was living in paradise, I had a friend up in Cicero
We used to go out to the track, and knock a few whiskeys back
I'd lose my shirt then I'd lose my way home
I was driving my Stutz Black Hawk through Justice in the dark
When suddenly the blood froze in my veins
She was standing by the road in an incandescent glow
My heart said wait, then my foot slammed on the brakes
She said, "please, please, will you justify my wish?
I'm trying to get to heaven, will you tell me where that is?"
On a wild Chicago night, with a wind howling white
I caught my first sign of Resurrection Mary
Resurrection Mary
Resurrection Mary
Resurrection Mary
I was trembling like a leaf, I was scared beyond belief
After all my conscience is not clear
I used to work with Mickey Finn, I did the numbers for Big Jim
Perhaps my day of reckoning lies here
I said, "please, please, I'd like to dignify your wish
But when it comes to heaven, I'm just a little bit amateurish"
On a wild Chicago night, with a wind howling white
I cheated time with Resurrection Mary
Resurrection Mary
Resurrection Mary
Resurrection Mary
And the tears were forming in my eyes
For the first time I felt something deep inside
For the first time I saw angels high in the air
For the first time in my life
I said, "Mary, go to the light
It's gonna be alright"
I got down on my knees, and I said, "sweet Mary, please
Justify my wishes before you run
Will you tell him I'm reformed, will you tell him I'm reborn?"
She closed her eyes and then she spoke in tongues
I said, "please, please, will you tell me what he said", she said
"You must die the day before the devil knows you're dead"
On a wild Chicago night, with a wind howling white
Well I waved goodbye to Resurrection Mary
Resurrection Mary
On a wild Chicago night, with a wind howling white
I lost sight
Resurrection Mary
Resurrection Mary
Resurrection Mary
Resurrection Mary
(Resurrection Mary) with the naked eye
Resurrection Mary
(Resurrection Mary) with the naked eye
Resurrection Mary
(Resurrection Mary) oh, with the naked eye
Resurrection Mary
(Resurrection Mary) oh, with the naked eye
Resurrection Mary
Resurrection Mary
Resurrection Mary
Resurrection Mary
