Born in Middlesbrough in 1949, Paul Rodgers is one of rock's most respected singer-songwriters.
In 1969 Paul was a founder member of the blues-rock group Free, with drummer Simon Kirke, guitarist Paul Kossoff, and bassist Andy Fraser. The group found fame with their third single, the classic 'All Right Now' (number 2 in May 1970) and their second album 'Fire And Water' (number 2 in June 1970). Despite this success, over three years from June 1970, the group had a very bumpy ride. They had a successful UK tour, a disastrous US tour, three top 10 albums and one flop, three top 10 singles and three flops, and they split for a year in May 1971. They eventually split for good in early 1973, partly due to Paul Kossoff's increasing dependence on drugs as well as musical differences within the band. Paul Kossoff eventually died of a drugs overdose in 1976.
The post-split compilation 'The Free Story' reached number 2 in March 1974, whilst in 1991 'All Right Now' was reissued and reached number 8 after it's use in chewing gum adverts; a compilation also reached number 9. Another compilation, 'Chronicles', was released in 2005.
In the summer of 1973, Paul was a founder member of the group Bad Company, which comprised half of Free (with drummer Simon Kirke) along with former Mott The Hoople guitarist Mick Ralphs, and Boz Burrell on bass. The group found instant success when their debut single 'Can't Get Enough' reached number 15 in the UK and number 5 in the USA in May/June 1974. Their debut album, 'Bad Company', reached number 3 in the UK and was a chart-topper in the US. The group's other best known single came in 1975 when 'Feel Like Makin' Love' reached number 20. Paul stayed with the band for a total of six albums, leaving after 'Rough Diamonds' in 1982. The band reformed in 1986 without Paul and continued to record until 1998, when the original line-up reformed to record four new tracks for 'The Original Bad Company Anthology', a double CD set which collected together the best tracks from the first six albums.
After leaving Bad Company in 1982, Paul went on to form 'The Firm' with Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page in 1985. The band only released two albums and four singles in the UK and USA, which were relatively successful, but in doing so Paul earned the distinction of being the first vocalist ever to be part of three grammy award nominated groups.
Paul has collaborated a number of times with Brian, including the charity singles 'Smoke On The Water' (also featuring Roger) and 'Reaching Out', the track 'I'm Ready' from his 1993 album 'Muddy Water Blues', and live performances at the 1991 'Expo '92 Legends Concert', various shows in 1994, and the Strat Pack concert in 2004.
Paul then performed with Brian and Roger on three tracks at the finale of the UK Music Hall Of Fame in 2005, which led to the 2005 European and Japanese tours, the 2006 US tour, the 2008 album 'The Cosmos Rocks' and the 2008 European and South American tours.

Company always on the run
Destiny, ooh, is the rising sun, oh
I was born, six gun in my hand
Behind a gun I'll make my final stand
It's why they call me
Bad company and I can't deny
Bad company 'til the day I die
Oh, 'til the day I die, 'til the day I die
Rebel souls, deserters we are called
Chose a gun and threw away the sword
Now these towns they all know our name
Six gun sound is our claim to fame
I can hear 'em say
Bad company and I won't deny
Bad, bad company 'til the day I die, I
Oh yeah, 'til the day I die
Oooh
Hey, hey, hey
Bad company I can't deny
Bad company 'til the day I die
That's what I said now
Bad company
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Bad company 'til the day I die
Oh yeah
Tell me you're not free
Oh, but I'm a bad company
That's the way I play, yeah
Dollar for dirty
Oooh, somebody got a problem
Oooh, price of love
Yeah, we're bad company
Oh the cold wind blows, yeah
Mmmm, yeah
That's the way we play

I gotta heartache coming my way
I don't wanna say goodbye
Baby but look at the tears in my eye
I don't wanna say goodbye
Mama but look at the way you've made me cry
Every day that's nice
You show you've got a heart that's made of ice
And I know fire and water
Must have made you a bad daughter
Ooh, got what it takes
To make a poor man's heart break
Poor man's heart break, yeah
Lover you turn me on
But quick as a flash your love is gone
Baby I'm gonna leave you now
But I'm gonna try and make you grieve somehow
Fire and water
Must have made you a bad daughter
Ooh, got what it takes
To make a poor man's heart break
A poor man's heart break
And my heart is breaking, ooh, oh yeah
I don't wanna say goodbye, baby
But look at the tears you've made me cry
Every day that's nice
You show you've got a heart that's made of ice
And I know fire and water
Must have made you a bad daughter
You've got what it takes
To make a poor man's heart break
Fire, fire and water
Must have made you a bad daughter
Baby, you've got what it takes
To make a poor man's heart break
Heart break
Huh, baby in my heart it's breaking
Oh, my heart is breaking
Oh listen

Man in the sky you say you're flying, you'll lose sight of the world
You wanna stay high, then don't deny your feeling inside, huh

Seagull, you fly across the horizon
Into the misty morning sun
Nobody asks you where you are going
Nobody knows where you're from
Here is a man asking the question
Is this really the end of the world?
Seagull, you must have known for a long time
The shape of things to come
Now you fly through the sky
Never asking why
And you fly all around
'Til somebody shoots you down
Da, da, da, da, da, da, down
Mm, mm, mm, mm
Mm, mm, mm
Seagull, you fly across the horizon
Into the misty morning sun
Nobody asks you where you are going
Nobody knows where you're from
Now you fly, through the sky
Never asking why
And you fly all around
'Til somebody, yeah, shoots you down
Mm, mm, yeah
Seagull you fly
Seagull you fly away
And you fly away today
And you fly away tomorrow
And you fly away
Leave me to my sorrow

'Love me do' I think it was and from there it didn't take him long
Got himself a guitar, used to play every night
Now he's in a rock 'n' roll outfit, and everything's all right
Don't you know
Johnny told his mama, "hey, mama, I'm goin' away
I'm gonna hit the big time, gonna be a big star someday, yeah"
Mama came to the door with a teardrop in her eye
Johnny said, "don't cry, mama, smile and wave goodbye"
Don't you know, yeah, yeah
Don't you know that you are a shooting star
Don't you know, don't you know
Don't you know that you are a shooting star
And all the world will love you just as long, as long as you are
Johnny made a record, went straight up to number one
Suddenly everyone loved to hear him sing his song
Watching the world go by, surprising it goes so fast
Johnny looked around him and said, "well, I made the big time at last"
Don't you know, now don't you know
Don't you know that you are a shooting star
Don't you know, woh, yeah
Don't you know that you are a shooting star, yeah
And all the world will love you just as long, as long as you are
A shooting star
Don't you know that you are a shooting star
Don't you know, ahhh
Don't you know that you are a shooting star now
And all the world will love you just as long, as long as you are
Johnny died one night, died in his bed
Bottle of whisky, sleeping tablets by his head
Johnny's life passed him by like a warm summer day
If you listen to the wind you can still hear him play
Woh, oh, woh
Don't you know that you are a shooting star
Don't you know, don't you know
Don't you know that you are a shooting star
Don't you know, yeah
Don't you know that you are a shooting star
Don't you, don't you, don't you, don't you
Don't you know, huh, don't you know, oh, oh, that you are a shooting star
Woh-oh-woh, woh-oh-oh-oh-oh
Woh-oh-woh, woh-oh-oh-wooh, woo
Don't you, don't you know that you are a shooting star
Don't you, don't you know, know, know, know, know
Know, know, know, know, know, know, know, know, know, know, know, know, know
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, woo
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, woo
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, woo

I said hey good lookin', come with me

Come to steal your love
The sun was shining, huh, the world was bright
I said, tell me baby, what'ya doin' tonight, huh

I'm tired of the city, won't you come on round
I said, yeah, oh yeah

Take off your hat, kick off your shoes
I know you ain't going anywhere
Run round the town singing your blues
I know you ain't going anywhere
You've always been a good friend of mine
But you're always saying farewell
And the only time that you're satisfied
Is with your feet in the wishing well
Oh, oh, yeah, yes
Throw down your gun, you might shoot yourself
Or is that what you're trying to do
Put up a fight you believe to be right
And someday the sun will shine through
You've always got something to hide
Something you just can't tell
And the only time that you're satisfied
Is with your feet in the wishing well
Ooh, yeah
But I know what you're wishing for
Love in a peaceful world, yeah
Love in a peaceful world, oh yeah
Love in a peaceful world
Mmm, mmm, mmm
Mmm, mmm, mmm
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, na, na
You've always been a good friend of mine
But you're always saying farewell
And the only time that you're satisfied
Is with your feet in the wishing well, oh, yes
Ow, I wish you well
Um, your wishing well, ow
Everybody has a wish, yeah
Everybody has a dream, yeah, yeah
Wishing well
Ow, dream, have a dream, your own dream
Oh yeah
Mmm, mmm, mmm
Mmm, yeah, alright
Mmm
Yeah, wishing well
Yeah, wishing well
Yeah, wishing well
